Education & Training

A/Prof Vaddadi graduated in medicine from the University of Melbourne (MBBS, 1999) and was concurrently awarded a Bachelor of Medical Science for research undertaken at the Baker Heart Research Institute. He completed basic physician training at Austin Health and went on to undertake advanced cardiology training — including subspecialty training in heart failure and cardiac transplantation — at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne (2004–2006). He subsequently pursued doctoral research investigating the pathophysiology of syncope and postural hypotension, resulting in a PhD and numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading international cardiovascular journals.

Professional Experience

A/Prof Vaddadi is currently Head of Heart Failure Services at Northern Health, one of Victoria’s busiest public teaching hospitals, where he has built a comprehensive, multidisciplinary heart failure program. He was the pioneer of the first acute heart failure at home service (Hearts@Home) through the Victorian Better@home program — a model now widely adopted across the state. He is also working to establish a Cardiac Genetics Service at Northern Health, improving access to this important subspecialty for patients in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

He was formerly Director of Cardiac Services at Cabrini Health (2017–2021). A/Prof Vaddadi sees private patients with any general cardiology issue and has a particular clinical interest in heart failure and syncope. A/Prof Vaddadi also reports echocardiography and exercise stress echocardiography. He consults at Melbourne Cardiology Group, providing care across multiple locations including Cabrini Health in Malvern, private consulting rooms in Vermont South and Bayside Health in Leongatha. Additionally, consults at The Cardiologists based within the Northern Private Hospital.

Research & Awards

A/Prof Vaddadi has an established research track record in cardiovascular medicine, with particular expertise in the mechanisms underlying syncope and autonomic dysfunction. His postgraduate research produced several high-profile peer-reviewed publications in leading cardiovascular journals. He was awarded the Ralph Reader Prize by the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (2008) in recognition of his outstanding research into syncope. He holds certification from the American Board of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and is actively engaged in projects at Northern Health applying artificial intelligence to improve clinical care and healthcare delivery.

Teaching & Academic Appointments

A/Prof Vaddadi is recently appointed as Adjunct Professor at RMIT University. He previously held an Adjunct Professorship at Notre Dame University Medical School, where he was actively involved in the teaching and mentoring of medical students, and he continues to teach medical students from the University of Melbourne through his role at Northern Health. He is committed to advancing medical education and fostering the next generation of clinicians.
