Associate Professor Sonny Palmer is a Consultant Cardiologist with subspecialty expertise in coronary artery and adult structural heart disease.

Sonny is a consultant cardiologist at The Alfred (Bayside Health).  He has provided specialist cardiology services to Gippsland for over a decade (Sale, Traralgon & Leongatha) and has admitting rights at the Epworth, Cabrini & St Vincent’s Hospitals.

Sonny specialises in cardiovascular risk factor assessment and management of coronary artery disease;

• Risk factor assessment and modification

• Coronary angiography

• Coronary intervention (PCI, DCB, FFR, lithotripsy & Rotablation)

• Coronary invasive imaging (OCT & IVUS).

Sonny specialises in the full spectrum of structural heart interventions;

• Aortic valve - Valvuloplasty & TAVI

• Mitral valve - TEER, ViV TMVR & new TMVR devices

• Tricuspid valve – TEER, ViV TTVR & new TTVR devices

• PFO (cryptogenic stroke), ASD & LAA closure. 

Sonny is a Clinical Associate Professor at The University of Melbourne. He was awarded his Doctorate at The University of Melbourne in 2016 (NHMRC & Heart Foundation Scholarship recipient).  He is actively involved in clinical research, publishes in peer-reviewed journals and is an investigator in multiple pioneering interventional trials.  Sonny is a primary supervisor of PhD, DMedSci and Nurse Practitioner candidates.
