Dr Krishna Bhagwat is an experienced Melbourne-based cardiothoracic surgeon with more than 24 years of expertise in adult cardiac and thoracic surgery. He has been practising across Melbourne’s leading public and private tertiary hospitals since 2008, following extensive specialist experience in major hospitals in Mumbai, India.

Dr Bhagwat specialises in advanced cardiac and thoracic procedures, with particular expertise in coronary artery bypass surgery, total arterial revascularization, minimally invasive valve repair and replacement, and complex aortic surgery. He is also at the forefront of robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery, offering patients innovative surgical approaches designed to reduce pain, minimise scarring, shorten recovery times, and improve overall outcomes.

His clinical interests include robotic-assisted coronary bypass procedures, minimally invasive heart valve surgery, uniportal (keyhole) thoracic surgery, and thoracic oncology. Dr Bhagwat is committed to combining leading-edge surgical technology with personalised patient care to achieve the best possible outcomes for every patient.  

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Bhagwat is actively involved in surgical education and research. He regularly presents at national and international medical conferences and has contributed to numerous publications in cardiothoracic surgery. He is a member of the Academy of Surgical Educators with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and serves as a Supervisor of Surgical Education and Training (SET) in Cardiothoracic Surgery, supporting the development of future surgeons.
